Located in Sant JuliĆ de Vilatorta, Cal Fusterpuig is an historic house built between party walls that needed a renovation. The ground floor had poor natural light, and disused rooms, and in the first floor, two new bathrooms where required.
The project strategy consisted in a complete redistribution of the ground floor, converting the original spaces in luminous and comfortable spaces. The kitchen is relocated in the disused room near the entrance.
The demolition of walls and some new holes in main walls allow new visual relationships between kitchen, dining and livingroom. The result is a continuous and broad ground floor which enjoys of great natural illumination in all its corners.
On the first floor, two full bathrooms are added in the appearance of two light wooden boxes inside a heavy masonry house.
The efficiency of the facades and party walls is also improved by insulating the walls and renovating the windows. The original sources of heating, consisting of a pellet stove and a high efficiency water heating pump, are kept as valid sources of efficient and sustainable heating systems.
